Estimating the warping of veneered furniture panels
1990
Suchsland, O.
The warping of a veneered cabinet door was analyzed by applying a warping model to the exact construction of the warped door. The effects of such variables as grain deviation in the veneer layers, species differences, and veneer thickness differences were investigated. The results show warping of the same order of magnitude as that exhibited by the real door. It was also found that warping caused by imbalances in the panel construction can be amplified by large moisture content (MC) changes in the core material. This indicates that careful monitoring of the MC of components at the time of assembly is an essential prerequisite to the elimination of large MC differences among layers and to the manufacture of stable panels.
