Present investigation was undertaken on screening Acalypha indica and Amaranthus viridis for their phytoremediation potential. For this purpose insitu study was carried out by selecting a site, contaminated with paint industry waste. The saplings of both species were grown over contaminated site and were allowed to grow for a period of two months followed by determination of heavy metals in root, shoot, leaves and flowers. A. indica accumulated 4665, 78.1, 85.85 and 90.92 mg/kg whereas A. viridis 4965, 126.88, 81.32 and 57.86 mg/kg Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu respectively in the leaves. The trend in Translocation factor obtained for A. indica was Mn> Fe > Cu > Zn and that for A. viridis was Mn> Cu > Fe > Zn.
