Cannas are herbaceous flowering plants native to the tropics and subtropics and widely cultivated as ornamentals in Florida. Canna yellow mottle virus (CaYMV), previously reported in Japan and Minnesota, is now also present in Florida, based on symptoms, microscopy, PCR, and sequence analysis. There is no known vector for this virus. Canna yellow mottle disease can be an economically important disease constraint on the production of cannas in Florida.
