Thermal decomposition of the black precipitate Cr₂Mn₃O₉ · aq at 1300 K leads to the dark brown spinel CrMn₁,₅O₄ (a = 847.9 pm; Z = 8; Fd3m). By magnetic measurements and model calculations from powder data of the spinel we propose the ionic distribution Crᴵⱽ[MnᴵᴵMnᴵⱽ₀,₅]O₄ with x = 0.35.
