Extract: This article discusses integration in agriculture, in particular integration in farm production as opposed to integration in the processing and distribution of agricultural products. the article begins by reviewing some concepts and definitions of integration in agriculture. it then describes various forms of farm integration, drawing primarily on examples from Eastern and Western Europe. this leads to a general review of the advantages and disadvantages of integration for farmers. this review focuses on the micro economic effects of integration the effects at the level of the individual farm firm. finally, a possible role for integration in agricultural production in Canada is sketched.
