Entomophagy, direct or indirect, could ease the world problems of protein and food shortage. Insects are very nutritious; they consist of protein and fats with small but significant amounts of carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, and chitin, which would provide roughage. Insects need not be consumed directly; they could be given to domestic animals and poultry. They are easily caught, and local food industries could develop techniques for selling and preserving them. A chart shows the nutrient content of 100g of witchity grub.
