The leader region of the Drosophila MDG1 retrotransposon contains transcription termination sites
1991
Analysis of MDG1 transcription in Drosophila cells has revealed that terminating transcription sequences whose activity is regulated differently in different types of cell are present in its leader region at a distance of about 1 kb downstream from the transcription initiation site, in the zone containing long oligo(dA) blocks. The study of the transient expression of deletion mutants has also shown that the small translation frame present in the leader region of MDG1 is apparently functional, indicating the possibility of reinitiation of translation on reading of the main MDG1 frame.
