Personality in Royal Pythons and the human–snake relationship
2002
The personality of six captive Royal Pythons (Python regius) was assessed using twenty-two personality trait terms. Fifteen personality adjectives were from Gosling and Bonnenburg's (1998) pet rating scale, while the remaining terms were generated from qualitative descriptions of the pythons' personality and behavior made by the owner. The general profile of python personality is compared to that of other domestic pets, and the process of personality attribution is considered as a function of the human–animal relationship.
