Subsoiling Effects on Moisture Content and Bulk Density in the Soil Profile
1989
Bernier, H. | Bostock, G. | Raghavan, G. S. V. | Broughton, R. S.
The capacity of a winged subsoiler to modify the physical characteristics of compacted soil layers was studied in sandy loam and clay loam plots subjected to 0 and 1 subsoiler pass, and 0, 1 and 2 subsoiler passes, respectively. The depth of loose soil, dry bulk density and soil moisture content were used as indicators. U-shaped soil disturbance patterns were observed. It was found that subsoiling compacted the top soil while loosening the subsoil. Both effects were more extreme after two passes.
