Impact of soil erosion on crop yields in North America

This paper discusses the impact of soil erosion and soil degradation on crop yields in North America using spatially referenced data with soil orders and erosion rates to estimate the productivity losses in each soil order. It also provides background information, data sources and analyses, and implications for research and policy. Estimates are given of the production and economic losses due to erosion for the four main crops in the area (maize, wheat, soyabeans and cotton) and for hay and fodder crops, as well as for miscellaneous crops.
