Indole as a precursor of indole-3-acetic acid in Zea mays
1994
A method for determination of indole by GC-SIM-MS using 15N-indole as an internal standard is described. Indole content was determined as a function of time of development of the endosperm of kernels of Zea mays, in other organs of Zea mays and in some species of flowers. Having demonstrated that indole is a normal component of Zea mays we showed the in vitro enzymatic synthesis of labelled indole-3-acetic acid and tryptophan from 5-[3H]-indole. These results suggest indole is a precursor of indole-3-acetic acid in maize endosperm.
