This paper gives an idea on the FAO-CIHEAM sub-network on sheep and goat nutrition. It reports its evolution and mandate. Examples of main activities and achievements are presented. This special issue, like the three previous ones, was prepared and published by this sub-network to present research achievements on the role of alternative feed resources in sheep and goat feeding. In order to address the recent development in this sector in the Mediterranean area and to develop sustainable strategies to promote the role of sheep and goats in production systems in arid zones, a reorganization of this sub-network is suggested.
