A new compound, 3,4-dihydro-3,5,7-trihydroxy-9-methyl- 1(2H)-anthraceone, designated as aloe barbendol has been isolated from the roots of Aloe barbadensis, while three known constituents, aloe emodin, aloe chrysone and barbaloin A have been obtained from the sap of the leaves.
