Aleuroclava aucubae (Kuwana, 1911) [Hemiptera: Aleyrodoidea: Aleyrodidae] is an East Palearctic whitefly species. In Europe, it was reported for the first time in northern Italy in 2006. After this first finding, the species was detected in Slovenia and Montenegro (2012) and in France in 2013. A. aucubae was first found in Croatia in July 2013 on lemon seedlings (Citrus x limon) from domestic production in two nurseries in Istria. The infestation of lemon plants was low, with mostly 1-5 puparia per leaf. Later on, it was found on several host plants in Opatija and on lemon leaves in a nursery in Zagreb as well. A. aucubae is a polyphagous insect. According to Mound and Halsey (1978), the pest has been recorded from 15 plant families, including Citrus species of the family Rutaceae. Puparia of A. aucubae are very small, elliptical and black. From the present knowledge, this new alien whitefly species apparently does not cause damage to cultivated plants. Thus, it presents a potential risk as a minor pest to citrus production in Croatia.
