Plant chemical defence: plant response to physical damage
1992
Hay, L. | Brown, J.M.M.
The effect of physical damage on the polyphenolic compounds of a plant was investigated. Leaves were taken from a tree and their chemical content was compared with that of leaves removed 20 min later. Three different tests showed significant differences between the two samples taken. Physical damage to plants were found to initiate changes in the chemical make-up of plants which could act as chemical defence against animals.
