Effect of dietary fat and vitamin E on mouse lung lipids

Dietary fat and vitamin E did not increase levels of lung lipids in mice, but dietary fat did increase lung fatty acid content. Fat and vitamin E diets had no significant effects on triacylglycerol or phospholipid levels through 4 weeks. Lung fatty acid composition through 6 weeks was not significantly affected by any level of vitamin E intake and showed little alteration bydiet, but the lard diet significantly elevated oleic and palmitoleic acids. Mice on the corn oil diet showed levels of linoleic acid twice those of lard-fed mice, and arachidonic acid was elevated by 15.8%. The peroxidizability index of lung tissue was elevated in mice fed corn oil.
