Zinc content of the diets of the sedentary bengalees
1985
Pohit, J. | Pal, B.
Colorimetry and atomic absorption analysis were used to determine the zinc (Zn) content in samples taken from homogenized whole-day diets of 14 sedentary men (ages 30-50) of middle-income socioeconomic status residing in India, 7 of which were vegetarians and 7 non-vegetarians. The mean content of Zn was slightly higher for the vegetarian diets; however, the standard errors of the means indicated that the two types of diets were statistically indistinguishable. Analyses also indicated that the contribution of drinking water to the dietary Zn intake was negligible. The results of the compositional analysis of the two types of diets are statistically summarized and discussed.(wz)
