A study demonstrated the successful applicability of an unmodified, commercially-available, single-photon instrument for measuring bone mineral content (BMC) of term and premature neonates. Humerus bone measurements were found to be the most reliable, with BMC values correlating with gestational age and birth weight. Normal humerus BMC values are defined for diagnostic use.(wz)
