Leaching of Salts from Dye and Textile Effluents Contaminated Soil and Its Environmental Impacts
2015
Kurinjimalar, P. | Mahimairaja, S.
Column experiment was conducted to examine the leaching of salt from the dye and textile effluents contaminated soil. Bulk soil sample was collected from a contaminated at Mangalam village of Tirupur district and used in the column experiment. The leachates were collected from four leaching events. The result showed that, the salt content of leachate collected after first leaching event was high, while for subsequent leaching events a significant decrease in salt content was observed. Further, it has been revealed that conjoint application of gypsum and organic amendments (poultry manure and green manure), large amounts of cations and anions were found to be leached from the contaminated soil. However, high loading of the leachate with soluble salts may pose potential risk for groundwater contamination from the contaminated soil.
