Effect of Boron on White Clover Nectar Production
1969
Smith, Ronald H. | Johnson, W. C.
The nectar total sugar concentration of white clover flowers was increased by addition of 0.2 and 0.5 ppm boron and was inversely related to the quantity of nectar produced. Glucose, fructose, and sucrose were the only sugars found in the nectar; this concentration approached a 1:1:1 ratio after the addition of boron. The addition of boron increased the amount of sucrose and glucose but decreased the amount of fructose found hi nectar. Effects of 0.2 ppm boron were approximately equal to those of 0.5 ppm. Total nectar volume varied with clover genotype and also with the time flowers were collected.
