Agri-Entrepreneurial Innovation and Entrepreneurial Behaviour: Case Analysis of Innovative Farmers of Punjab, India

Indian agriculture has significantly contributed to the world food production baskets because of the constant technological innovations originated from research institutions and strategic production modalities followed by the farming system. Another major contributing factor for the production advancement and the income enhancement of farming activities is the farmer-led innovations that emerge from the informal research at the grass-root level. Through the execution of case study research, this study documented and analyzed the cases of innovative farmers from Punjab, India, who have shown a significant level of transformative initiatives in the farming field. The study also critically examined the cases to elicit the innovative and entrepreneurial traits to make planned interventions to impart the same among fellow farmers. The case analysis showed that innovativeness, calculated risk-taking ability, determination, committed work, achievement motivation, ability to foresee and plan accordingly, etc., are some of the entrepreneurial traits and characteristics common to innovative farmers.
