Pocket computers: New aid to nutritional support
1985
Colley, C.M. | Fleck, A. | Howard, JP.
A new computer program has been developed for the Sharp PC-1500 computer, a pocket programmable calculating microcomputer, to predict patient nutritional energy and nitrogen requirements, in which allowances for disease and trauma are calculated by the computer. Energy expenditures were measured on 66 patients and fit volunteers, with the clinical condition of the patients ranging from uncomplicated malnutrition, through various degrees of trauma, to necrotising pancreatitis with respiratory and renal failure. Computer predictions correlated well with measured values for energy and nitrogen requirements. The program was used in the management of over 100 patients requiring nutritional therapy. (wz)
