Nutrients in Surface Soils Following Tree Harvest of Singleleaf Pinyon
1987
Thran, D. F. | Everett, R. L.
Fuelwood harvesting and chipping operations have increased over the last decade in the singleleaf pinyon (Pinus monophylla Torr. and Frem.) forests of the Great Basin. Surface samples of mineral soil were taken in harvested and unharvested areas at six sites and analyzed for NO₃-N; Kjeldahl-N; exchangeable Ca, Mg, K; and extractable P, Cu, Mn, Fe, and Zn. Higher concentrations of nutrients were present in the mineral soils under trees 5 to 8 yr following harvest. Effects of harvest on K, Cu, Mn, and Fe, were site specific.
