Economics and Investment Appraisal of Ber Cultivation in Jammu District

The present investigation was conducted in Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir state during the year 2008. Two blocks were selected from Jammu district having the highest area under the ber fruit. On an average cost A, cost B and cost C were Rs. 267 and Rs. 1435 and Rs. 3917, respectively. The per acre average returns per year from ber orchards were Rs. 5769. The net present value was worked out to Rs. 3951 with internal rate of return of 16.17 per cent, 1.54 beneft cost ratio and payback period of 6.7 years.
