Growth, yield and quality of gerbera flower under the influence of growth media

Among the ten treatments studied, treatment Cocopeat 40% + red soil 30%+ F.Y.M. 20% + sand 10% was significantly superior and at par with the treatment cocopeat 40% + red soil 30% + vermicompost 20% + sand 10% and cocopeat 40% + red soil 30% +F.Y.M.10%+ vermicompost10% + sand 10%. The growth media, comprising of Cocopeat 40% +red soil 30% + F.Y.M. 20% + sand 10% was superior with respect to the characters, plant height, number of functional leaves, leaf area, leaf area index, number of days to first bud emergence, number of days for flower development, number of days to first harvest, number of flowers per plant, flower diameter, flower stalk length, diameter of flower stalk and vase life, while, red soil 80% + Sand 20% was significantly inferior than rest of the treatments.
