Lupins (Lupinus albus var. Ultra) as a replacement for soybean meal in diets for growing chickens and turkey poults
1988
Perez-Escamilla, R. | Vohra, P. | Klasing, K.
The gain in body weight of broilers fed diets containing up to 30% sweet raw lupins or 35% autoclaved lupins was not significantly different from that of broilers fed a corn-soybean meal diet. Lupin hulls did not appear to be deleterious for broilers. Turkey poults fed diets with 30% lupines grew at a similar rate and had similar feed efficiency as poults fed a soy based diet. Diets containing 40% or 60% lupines significantly decreased feed intake and weight gain of poults. Soaking lupines in water prior to feeding improved weight gain and feed efficiency of poults fed 60% lupine diets.
