Acetate in Fresh Water: Natural Substrate Concentrations Determined by Dilution Bioassay
1968
Allen, Harold L.
A dilution bioassay has been employed to determine concentrations of acetate in fresh water. The response of the bioassay is presumably due to heterotrophy of bacteria and is analyzed by Michaelis—Menten enzyme kinetics. Concentrations of acetate were found to be within the range 0—6 mg liter— ¹ in five bioassay measurements. The bioassay may prove applicable in determining concentrations of other organic solutes in lake water.
