Diet and weight loss
1977
VanItallie, Theodor B. | Yang, Mei-Uih
Some of the complexities of the physiologic processes that underlie weight change are examined. The rate and composition of weight loss in obese and nonobese subjects in response to caloric restriction are shown in tables and discussed. Effects of protein supplemented fasting are briefly covered. At any given level of energy deficit, the rate at which the body loses weight depends on the composition of the loss, particularly its water content. Diuresis can be prolonged with low calorie ketogenic diets and fasting.
