1986
Schein, D.D.
The growing problem of drug abuse in the workplace, the subject of this article, is analyzed from various aspects. Detection is a major problem, as there are no ready indexes for drug intoxication. Too, drugs can have an effect long after consumption. Therefore, drug detection testing can conflict with the recreational use of drugs that has gained a certain amount of acceptance. Because of legal intricacies and feelings of unconstitutionality, no precedent has been set by high courts yet. Guidelines for drug screening policies, as well as problems encountered in producing prompt, reliable testing are reviewed. Cautions to employers regarding termination disclosures due to drug detections are also presented.(jd-b)
