Bio-efficacy of newer insecticides against major insect pests of brinjal (Solanum melongena)

A study was conducted to test the bioefficacy of newer insecticides against major insect pest of brinjal at horticulture farm, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur. Different doses of spirotetriamat + imidacloprid @ 45 + 45, 60 + 60 and 75 + 75 g a.i. ha⁻¹, spirotetramat 150 SC @ 75 g ai ha⁻¹, imidacloprid 200 SL @ 75 g a.i. ha⁻¹, endosulfan @ 437.5 g a.i. ha⁻¹, dicofol @ 185 g a.i. ha⁻¹, flubendiamide @ 60 g a.i. ha⁻¹ and beta-cyfluthrin @ 18 g a.i. ha⁻¹ were investigated against the major insect pests of brinjal. Spirotetramat + imidacloprid @ 75 + 75 g a.i. ha⁻¹ was found most effective for the control of jassids and white flies as it accounted more than 76.11% control, even after fourteen days of spraying. Imidacloprid 200 SL @ 75 g a.i. ha⁻¹ was found better than other treatments to reducing jassids and whiteflies population which was statistically at par with spirotetramat + imidacloprid @ 60 + 60 g a.i. ha⁻¹. Spirotetramat 150 SC @ 75 g a.i. ha⁻¹ was adjudged most superior for the control of brinjal shoot and fruit borer. Spirotetramat 75 g a.i. ha⁻¹ could result of 3.44% damage after seven days of third spray was compared to 42.84% damage on fruits in untreated plots being at par with spirotetramat + imidacloprid @ 75 + 75 g a.i. ha⁻¹. Dicofol and imidacloprid proved to be the least effective and flubendiamide gave moderate control of shoot and fruit borer which was at par with beta-cyfluthrin. Ready mixture of spirotetramat + imidacloprid and all the other insecticides did not show any phototoxic effect on brinjal plants
