One-dimensional gravity drainage of uniform columns of porous materials

A numerical analysis of the one-dimensional gravity drainage problem using the pressure head form of the differential equation of flow is presented. The analysis is programmed for solution by a digital computer and is tested against several sets of published experimental data where the hydrologic characteristics of the porous material are given, together with the required time profiles of pressure head and water content. The numerical approach is then used to investigate in detail certain physical aspects of the drainage process.
