Trait association analysis for yield and attributing traits in sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)

Correlations and path coefficient were studied in 60 genotypes of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) in Kharif season, 2017 at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar to evaluate the association of seed yield and yield attributing traits and to determine the direct and indirect effects of yield-related traits on seed yield.Seed yield per plant had significantly positive correlation with plant height, number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant, number of capsules per plant, number of seeds per capsule, 1000 seeds weight capsule length while, with significantly negative correlation with days to 50% flowering and days to maturity. Path coefficient analysis revealed that number of capsules per plant had the highest direct and positive effect on seed yield per plant, thus indicates the selection based on these traits could be more effective to maximize the seed yield in sesame breeding programmes.
