An unusual [2+2] cycloadduct of terpenoid coumarin from Ethulia vernonioides

The leaves of Ethulia vernonioides contain an unusual [2+2] cycloadduct product of a co-occurring monoterpenoid 5-methyl coumarin precursor. The structures were elucidated by means of high field NMR spectroscopy. Photochemical transformation of precursor afforded the cycloadduct.
