An estimated contribution of organic matter and clay to the cationic exchange by multiple linear regression in Gley Nodular ferruginous rice soils from the flat areas of South Havana and Pinar del Rio is presented. The results show that the supremacy of the cationic exchange in these soils is a responsibility of the mineral fraction (clay type 1:1), with impoverishment of the adsorption capacity of organic matter in the top soil layer, where precisely the clay content is less and in which the root system develops. Because of poor colloidal capacity of the soils, the crop may lack nutrients.
