Primary features of the Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management Association (HCIMA) conference on "Industry and education--a meeting point" are reported. A picture of managers' present responsibilities and knowledge, and details of employer's expectations were gleaned from the participants. The updated requirements for professional qualification for HCIMA are outlined. Some major aspects of a research program established to determine what might be hindering the development of successful catering managers are explained. Copies of the complete report are available.
