Demand elasticity on the European avocado market: a short term equilibrium forecast

Data were gathered of the quantities of avocado supplied to the European market, in the October-May period, from 1979/80 to 1987/88, and the corresponding real export prices. An historical analysis of the European avocado demand has been made, emphasizing the evolution of the functional shape of the demand over the period considered. From results of this analysis, and using the estimated future production and domestic compsumption of the most important countries which export avocado to Europe in the above mentioned period (mainly Israel and Spain), a forecast of the future European market equilibrium has been made. Some conclusions about the structure of market equilibrium have also been drawn.
