The use of dietary supplements in the general population has increased rapidly, especially in the various types of cancer with which people are diagnosed. Nutritionists are frequently asked about the efficacy and safety of these supplements. This article presents guidelines based on the available scientific literature to provide information on the use of dietary supplements to clients and colleagues in an oncology setting. The key references provided can be used to develop practice-specific guidelines for nutrition counseling related to complementary and alternative medicine for other diseases.
