Food chain launches heart education campaign

Giant, a Washington, D.C. area supermarket chain is cooperating with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in a one-year pilot nutrition education campaign aimed at exposing shoppers to heart health and nutrition issues. Free biweekly booklets, posters, and radio and television promotional ads will be included in the program. Food sales in Giant stores in the Washington area, where the campaign is being implemented, will be compared with Baltimore area Giant stores, where it is not.
