Online Assessment Of Foreign Matter In Cotton During Ginning

Three trash meters designed for measurement of foreign matter content (trash) in ginned lint were installed in a small-scale cotton ginning system and evaluated as tools for trash measurements on seed cotton and lint cotton. Regression analyses of seed cotton and lint foreign matter as a function of the area and count (number) of trash particles indicated by the trash meter produced high correlations. Results indicated that the trash meters were sufficiently accurate to continuously assess the foreign matter of cotton in a gin process control system.
