USDA activities in relation to the sodium issue--1981-83

An overview is presented on USDA projects on sodium (Na) in the areas of research and information or education. The research initiatives cover studies on the Na content of foods, the monitoring of Na content of diets, and the reduction of Na in processed foods. Information and education initiatives cover the areas of food labeling, and consumer education through the use of publications and mass media. In its overall program concerning Na, the USDA is working closely with other federal agencies, consumers, and the food industry in the interchange of technical information. (wz)
