Since centuries Andrographis paniculata is known to treat respiratory tract infections, fever, herpes, sore throat, gastrointestinal zone and a variety of chronic infectious diseases. Its primary bioactive constituents are diterpenoid andrographolides, neo-andrographolide, deoxyandrographolide and -19B-D-glucoside, isolated from aerial parts. The prime objective of present investigation was to find impact of cultural conditions on sodic and normal soils on bioactive constituents. Further, focus was to standardize extraction conditions (solvent, time) on the yield of andrographolides. The maximum contents of andrographolide, neo-andrographolide and deoxy-andrographolide were obtained in 60 days old plants grown on normal soil followed by continued decrease with plant growth under uniform cultural conditions. The maximum yield was obtained by using methanol as extraction solvent by using Soxhlet for 5 hrs.
