Diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in strawberry crop systems detected in trap cultures

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi form mutualistic relationships with most of terrestrial plant species and are distributed in various habitat types. Considering the presence and diversity of AM fungi in a specific area is the first step for exploiting the benefits of these fungi, the aim of this study was to describe the diversity of AM fungi species in soils of different strawberry crop systems using the trap culture technique. Soil samples were obtained from five fields of strawberry crop. Soil samples were chemically characterized and used to establish trap cultures to induce sporulation and further morphological identification. All soils had similar number of AM fungi species; however, each site presented some different species. Thirteen Glomeromycota species were identified. The two most frequent species in soils under strawberry crop are Claroideoglomus etunicatum and Funneliformis mosseae. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi diversity in the rhizosphere of strawberry crop shows differences among the sites surveyed.
