Energy options for an equitable and sustainable food system
1981
Roby, K. | Watt, M.
The impact of the changing energy situation on developing countries is examined. Energy from fossil fuel is required to produce, process, distribute, and cook food consumed. Energy analysis is 1 way to calculate comparisons between cropping systems and energy costs; another is post-farm gate energy inputs which is the energy usage and cost for food (once it has left the farm) added at the factory, in the shop, in transportation, at home, and in restaurants. It is necessary to develop a sustainable food system which places the cost of supplying foods and world's food needs into prospective for the mutual benefit of all. (kbc)
