Caffeine's role in birth defects
1978
Jacobson, Michael
Recent studies reveal that as little as three to four cups of coffee a day may pose a threat to the fetuses of pregnant women. The drug caffeine is present in coffee, ordinary tea, chocolate, and cola beverages. Results of a test done with rats and sponsored by the National Coffee Association are presented, together with findings from a Belgian study done on humans. The likelihood of further FDA research regarding the relationship between caffeine and birth defects is examined.
