Influence of Glomus fasciculatum on Rotylenchulus reniformis infecting Rice Bean

A pot culture experiment was carried out to study the influence of Glomus fasciculatum on Rotylenchulus reniformis infecting rice bean in relation to dry matter yield, no of pods, development of nodules, phosphorus content, population development and rate of reproduction of AM and reniform nematode in the net house conditions. G. fasciculatum inoculated one week prior to the R. reniformis resulted in highest increase of dry matter yield (104%), no. of pods (97.6%) no of nodules (80.9%) and total phosphorus content (119.4%) over check followed by the treatment receiving simultaneous inoculation of G. fasciculatum and R. reniformis. AM inoculated roots simultaneously as well as one week prior to R. reniformis exhibited increased root colonisation (25 and 41.5%), growth of chlamydospores (3.9 and 7.1) and reduced reproductive growth of R. reniformis (0.78 and 0.59), respectively in rice bean. Conversely, inoculation of R. reniformis one week prior to AM showed reduced growth of chlamydospores (2.4), reduction in root colonisation by AM (8.0%) and increase in R. reniformis population growth (2.9) that also indicated R. reniformis inhibitory to G. fasciculatum.
