International comparison of an electromagnetic current-meter and knowledge gained for hydrological practice | Ringversuch eines magnetisch-induktiven Fließgeschwindigkeitsmessgeräts und daraus gewonnene Erkenntnisse für die hydrologische Praxis
2021
Kainz, Silke
In 2018, an international laboratory comparison was organized by the Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Calibration of Hydrometrical Current-Meters in which five other European laboratories with calibration facilities participated. The evaluation of the test of an electromagnetic current-meter showed very consistent results of all participants with a standard uncertainty of about 0.2% of the mean values. The standard used for the laboratory comparison showed deviations of up to a maximum of 1.9% from the mean values determined via the participant results. The publication shows how the results of the laboratory comparison fit in with the data on the accuracy of electromagnetic measuring instruments documented in the current standards and literature. The paper quantifies the effects of the uncertainty of an electromagnetic current-meter on the calculation of discharge and the combined uncertainty of discharge calculation in sample rivers. In addition, the work provides a contribution for a future estimation of measurement uncertainties from the calibration of electromagnetic current-meters.
