The present study focuses on the selective reduction of various nitrobenzene to aniline using non-noble metals such as CoCl₂ supported [Cemim]Br and formic acid as a hydrogen donor. Under ionic liquid medium, the CoCl₂ is found to be very efficient in the selective reduction of nitroaromatics to aniline. The catalyst is reusable, and it can be used for six cycles without affecting the efficiency of the conversion.
