An Ancient Bristlecone Pine Stand in Eastern Nevada
1965
Currey, Donald R.
A 4,900—year—old bristlecone pine (Pinus aristata) in a stand on Nevada's Wheeler Peak, in the eastern Great Basin, is comparable in age to the oldest in California's White Mountains, at the western margin of the Basin. The current hypothesis regarding distribution of age limit in bristlecone pine must therefore be reexamined. Part of the Wheeler Peak bristlecone stand is situated on Little Ice Age features, rendering datable a sequence of Little Ice Age events.
