Correlation of imazapyr adsorption and desorption with soil properties

Adsorption and desorption of imazapyr on eight soils were examined using a batch equilibration technique. Equilibrium was able to be reached within 20 h of shaking time. The adsorbed percent increased both with the increase in bath temperature and the decrease in soil pH. The adsorption and desorption isotherms fit the Freundlich equation well. Linear correlation regression of Freundlich adsorption constants Kaf and Kafn with soil properties was performed. A notable correlation of Kaf or Kafn with [H](OM%) was obtained with a correlation coefficient of 0.999, indicating that [H](OM%) was the main factor affecting the adsorption of imazapyr. The correlation with soil properties of the average desorbed percents of five intially adsorbed levels () was also analyzed. showed a better linear correlation with OM% than with other parameters of soil, suggesting that the desorption of imazapyr from soils was controlled by the content of the organic matter. A decrease in organic matter content corresponded to an increase in the ease of desorption of imazapyr.
