1978
Taylor, Andrew | Marks, Vincent
A review of information about cobalt, an essential trace element, is presented by categories: (1) physiology; (2) pharmacological effects including erythropoiesis, lipaemia, cardiomyopathy, and tumors; (3) biochemical effects; and, (4) miscellaneous effects--metal sensitivity and total joint replacements, and cobalt excretion test. Regulaton of intestinal absorption implies that, in addition to its presence in vitamin B12, cobalt is also an essential biological element in the inorganic form. It may be important in the regulation or reactions of certain enzymes and in iron metabolism.
